Mini skips to container skips. We have them all!
4 yard skip Capacity: 40 standard black bin bags (approx.) Size (metric): 1.8m long x 1.3m wide x 1m high (approx.) Size (imperial): 5ft 11in long x 4ft 3in wide x 3ft 3in high (approx.) The smallest skip in our range, the 4 yard (generally known as a mini skip or midi skip) is a compact size suited to smaller jobs only. Common uses include: small building works (e.g. repairs, bathroom renovations), clearing out cupboards or wardrobes & gardening (e.g. waste from hedge trimming or tree pruning).
Skip Hire Midlothian's hire rates include:
Delivery, set hire period (7 days maximum), collection & licensed waste management
8 yard skip Capacity: 65-80 standard black bin bags (approx.) Size (metric): 3.1m long x 1.9m wide x 1.6m high (approx.) Size (imperial): 10ft 2in long x 6ft 3in wide x 5ft 3in high (approx.)
Generally known as a “standard builders skip”, the 8 yard skip is the most widely-hired size. In spite of the name, it's not just for builders as its footprint & capacity make it equally popular with private hirers for household jobs such as flat & (smaller) house clearances, shed or garage clear-outs. Landscapers & builders use this size for works where earth, soil or other building materials require to be removed.
Skip Hire Midlothian's hire rates include:
Delivery, set hire period (7 days maximum), collection & licensed waste management
14 yard skip
Capacity: 115-135 standard black bin bags (approx.)
Size (metric): 4m long x 1.9m wide x 2m high (approx.)
Size (imperial): 13ft 2in long x 6ft 3in wide x 6ft 7in high (approx.)
When an 8 yard is just not enough, our 14 yard skip offers a useful increase in waste capacity for only a slight increase in footprint. These factors make it ideally suited to uses such as larger domestic house clearances and for medium-sized commercial office clearances, small warehouse clear-outs and shop refits which typically involve the disposal of awkwardly-shaped, oversized waste including lengths of timber, metal, plastic & packaging
Skip Hire Midlothian's hire rates include:
Delivery, set hire period (7 days maximum), collection & licensed waste management
20 yard skip
Capacity: 200-220 standard black bin bags (approx.)
Size (metric): 7m long x 2.5m wide x 1.9m high (approx.)
Size (imperial): 23ft long x 8ft 3in wide x 6ft 3in high (approx.)
Public sector institutions & commercial businesses also regularly require larger container skips (in 20 & 40 yard sizes). These are of a different design to the smaller chain skips and as such permit easier loading & are not lifted but slid (from the back of the lorry) into position on site. A 20 yard container skip's common uses include: larger commercial site work such as refurbishment or clearance of commercial/industrial premises (such as offices, warehouses, colleges & larger retail units) & sites where continuous amounts of waste are being produced & regular removal is required (such as care homes).

How do I hire a skip? Here's the process:
On the reserved delivery date, a skip of the ordered size will be collected from the depot by a member of Skip Hire Midlothian (SHM)’s drivers & driven to your given delivery address. Once there it will either be lifted or slid into the space reserved for it on site (it is your responsibility to ensure that there is clear access to this space). You then have it on site for up to 7 days (typical hire) to fill with your waste.
VERIFIED
At Skip Hire Midlothian we understand that customers’ requirements for skip hire can vary considerably depending on the job being undertaken which is why we have tried to cover many of the most common questions we are asked in the frequently-asked questions (FAQ) section (below) but we are also happy to advise on any other aspects of hiring a skip or discuss any special requirements you may have over the phone e.g. longer-term hires, multiple skip hires, wait and load services, waste removal. We’re always happy to help new and existing customers so give us a call today.
When potential customers call SHM many of them have wasted their valuable time phoning many companies in pursuit of the lowest possible price. As with purchasing other services however, the very cheapest option is rarely ever the best choice.
“Cheap & nasty” operators may quote hire rates suspiciously lower than the vast majority of the competition but customers should ask themselves how they are able to do so. As the saying goes, “If something appears to be good to be true then it usually is”. Suspiciously low prices usually equate to very poor service. A seemingly cheap skip quickly becomes very expensive when it fails to tun up when you have hired labour or booked time off. A seemingly cheap skip that is not collected & sits on your (or a client’s) drive for months quickly becomes a major headache. Don’t take the risk!
At SHM we acknowledge the importance of offering our customers competitive prices so we strive to keep our rates keen but our primary emphasis is on providing a high standard of service so that customers know that when they pick up the phone to us, SHM can be relied upon to deliver what they promise, treat them well & handle their waste responsibly.
Call SHM for reliable skip hire that you can trust.
At some point we have all done something for the first time ever so at SHM we do not expect you to know anything about skip hire before you call us – knowing about skip hire is, after all, our job & not yours. We want our customers to feel comfortable to ask us anything they need to know.
To reassure first-time customers we have put together an FAQ page that brings together the most commonly-asked questions that clients pose. If you want to clarify some basics before you call then look over our “Guide to skip sizes” & “Guide to hiring a skip” sections above then click onto the FAQ page to look over the questions & answers there.
If you then have any outstanding questions simply give us a call. SHM is always here to help
